Baruch 69, Geneseo State 59

New York, NY — Sophomore guard Chiresse Paradise (Chicago, IL/Rich Central) notched 20 points, seven rebounds, eight assists, and seven steals to lead Baruch to a 69-59 non-conference win over SUNY-Geneseo on Sunday afternoon in the ARC Arena.

Baruch (3-1) had a one-point advantage of 47-46 with 12:03 left, but went on an 11-2 run started with a pair of free throws by Diane Ramirez (Sunnyside, NY/Francis Lewis), three layups by Paradise, and a Jessenia Marrero (Flushing, NY/Francis Lewis) three-pointer for a 58-48 score. The run was enough of a buffer to hold on the rest of the way for the win.

Marrero finished with 14 points and Ramirez dished out six assists. Racquel Reid (Bronx, NY/Washington Irving) had a strong second half and finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Geneseo (1-1) struggled all afternoon from three-point range (2-16), but received balance scoring with three-players in double-digits led by sophomore forward Annie Verdino (Yorktown Heights, NY/New Hyde Park) with 18 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals.

Bridget Riley (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) and Amanda Haney (Sidney, NY/Sidney) both chipped in with 10 points each, while Merrissa Wilson (Buffalo, NY/Mount Mercy Academy) had seven points, five assists, and three steals.

Geneseo trailed throughout most of the game, but fought back twice in the first half to tie. Baruch's biggest lead of the game was 65-51 with 3:55 left.

Baruch will return to action this Friday with the conference opener at rival Hunter College. Tip off in the Hunter Sportsplex is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
