Cornell, which was 0-24 last season, improved to 6-13 overall, 4-6 in the Iowa Conference. Coe is 7-12, 5-5.
Scoring balance was the norm for both teams. Eight Cornell players scored, led by Katie Morris with 12 points — eight coming in the second half. Ten different Kohawks reached the scoring column, led by Morgan Bailey, who had game-highs for points (14) and rebounds (10).
Cornell led by as many as six points and also had the lead for all but eight seconds of the second half. A layup by Shanon Nelson off an assist from Bailey gave the Kohawks their lone lead of the final 20 minutes at 58-57 with 8.1 seconds to play. Then Wallace took over.
Dani Merriman did all of her scoring for Cornell in the second half, making 2 of 7 three-point field goals and 2 of 3 free throws for eight points. All six of Wallace’s points came in the second half.
Only one field goal was made from 16:14 to 9:59 of the first half — a three-pointer by Cornell’s Courtney Moeller, which trimmed the Kohawk lead to 8-7.
