Trinity (14-5, 7-3) led 36-28 at the half, thanks to a 10-3 run over the final 3:27 of the period. Southwestern quickly cut into the lead in the second half with a 9-2 run. The Tigers also went on scoring spurts to push the lead back to seven or nine points, but the Pirates answered each time.
The lead for either team was no more than three points over the final 8:24 of the game, as both teams battled for the win. In the final minute, Southwestern beat the Trinity's pressure defense with a layup late in the possession, taking a 61-58 lead with 49 seconds to play.
The Tigers cut it to 61-60 with 35 seconds left, but Southwestern hit both free throws with 15 seconds on the clock to force a final three-pointer from Trinity.
Jennifer Wieman led Trinity with a career-high 16 points off the bench, hitting 6-8 from the floor. Wieman also led the team with a career-best eight assists, adding four rebounds as well.
Jennifer Farrar chipped in with 10 points and three boards, while Martha King had nine points. Leda McDaniel scored seven points to go with three assists and three steals.
Beth Hannon led the team with four steals, while Krista Prato Matthews led the Tigers with eight rebounds. Prato Matthews also had eight points and three steals in 26 minutes off the bench.
Kendal George led all scorers with 29 points on 12-18 shooting for Southwestern, as well as grabbing eight rebounds.
Trinity will try to end its losing streak with a home game against the University of Dallas tomorrow night.
