Baruch 89, Hunter 72

New York, N.Y. — Ally Stamatiades (Astoria, N.Y./W.C. Bryant) scored a season-high 25 points to lead the Bearcats to an exciting 89-72 conference win over Hunter in front of a school record crowd of 1,200 fans in the ARC Arena on Wednesday night.

The victory keeps the Bearcats undefeated in conference play with a 12-0 mark, while they also pick up their 17th win on the season.

The game was another tightly contested battle between both teams with Hunter taking a 39-37 lead into halftime.

Jessica Proscia (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame) scored a lay up to give Hunter a 48-47 lead with 13:17 left in the second half, but that would be the last time they led the entire game.

Stamatiades scored a lay up on the next possession to go up, 49-48, and that helped ignite a 17-6 run for a 66-54 advantage with 7:53 left in the game. Chiresse Paradise (Chicago, Ill./Rich Central) scored nine of her 22 points in that span, as the Bearcats began to pull away behind the loud support from the record crowd.

The lead grew to as high as 18 points in the final two minutes.

Jessenia Marrero (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) scored 13 points, Racquel Reid (Bronx, N.Y./Washington Irving) had 11 points and seven rebounds, and Naesha Tyler-Moore rounded out five players in double-figure scoring with 10 points and five rebounds.

Jennifer Ithier (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) led Hunter (12-11, 8-4 CUNYAC) with 24 points on a solid 4-of-6 from three-point range.

Baruch shot 52 percent (32-62) in the game and forced 29 turnovers with strong defense.

The women’s team will finish their conference schedule this Saturday with a tough road game at Lehman College. Tip off is scheduled for Noon.
