The Storm led 62-61 with 2:34 to go, but the Beavers' Katie Ebel put BV in the lead with a short jumper 12 seconds later. Sarah Pearson's layup gave Simpson a 64-63 lead with 2:04 remaining. Kelli Staley made a pair of free throws to give the Beavers a 65-64 lead with 1:36 to go.
Courteny Stoelk pushed the lead to 67-64 with a basket with 63 seconds remaining. Katelyn Whiton's tip-in of a Pearson miss cut it to one. Buena Vista took possession with 39 seconds, Stoelk attempted a three-pointer, but missed. Staley rebounded the ball, giving BV a fresh 30-second shot clock. BV point guard Katie Maguire ran the clock down to five seconds before she was fouled. Maguire made both free throws.
The Storm called timeout, setting up a three-point attempt by Heather Kay, but her shot went off the back iron, giving the Beavers their fifth victory over the Storm in the last six meetings.
Maguire led all scorers with 21 points. Staley posted a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. Simpson was led by Carlie Beals who had 16. Whiton scored 10 points and had seven rebounds while Dana Johnson scored 10 and had seven assists.
