The Lady Pioneers trailed 40-27 at the half but mounted a second-half come-back that gave them a 59-58 lead with 56-seconds remaining in the game. Sophomore Crystal Hoewisch gave Carroll the lead after knocking down two free-throws but the Red Hawks responded with the final four points of the game – a lay-up by Anne Ackerman and a pair of free-throws by JoEllen Buerger. Carroll had the ball with 14-seconds remaining but a three-pointer by senior Krista Rode was off the mark.
Rode scored a game-high 21 points while Hoewsich chipped in with 20. However, no other Carroll player scored more than five points.
Karalyn Dehn recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Red Hawks.
Carroll, 17-4 overall, 11-3 in the Midwest Conference, still have a shot a finishing the regular-season in first-place. The Lady Pioneers host Lawrence on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
With 21 points, Rode became just the sixth Lady Pioneer to score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds. She joins Mary Uhalt (1974-1978), Pam DuBiel (1981-1985), Lynn Dusold (1983-1987), Bet-Z Boenning (1989-1993) and Crystal Grosskopf (1996-2000) in the 1,000/500 club.
