Cardinal scored 25 points in the first half as the Crusaders built a 42-33 advantage at the break. With the scored tied at 31-31, UD took advantage of CC’s foul problems and went on an 11-2 run over the final 3:15. The Crusaders opened the second half with a 10-2 run and pushed their lead to 17 points with 15:27 to go.
The Tigers (12-9) were able to whittle UD’s lead to six points after a three-pointer by junior guard Megan McCallister with 1:13 to play, but that was as close as CC would get.
Junior guard Kristy Malone had 19 points and junior forward Ana Castillo eight points and eight rebounds to earn spots on the all-classic team.
Sophomore forward Paige Whitney paced the Tigers with 19 points and eight rebounds. Freshman guard Melanie Auguste had 14 points and seven rebounds despite being saddled with three fouls in the first half. Both
Colorado College will get an opportunity to avenge the loss next Friday when the Tigers play the Crusaders in the University of Dallas Classic. CC will also play Chapman University in a key West Region matchup on Saturday.
