ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. — Holding the Crown College Storm (Minn.) to just 18 first-half points, the Northwestern College (Minn.) women’s basketball team picked up their third straight victory with a 60-45 route on the road. The Eagles wrapped up their regular season schedule owning a 15-10 overall record and 10-4 mark in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). Northwestern tied the University of Minnesota-Morris for second place in the UMAC regular season standings, two games behind conference champion Presentation College (S.D.).UMAC Northwestern (Minn.) Northwestern slowly began to break down Crown College as the Eagles built an 8-point lead at 16-to-8 with 7:50 remaining in the first half. Continuing to own the upper-hand, Northwestern increased their advantage to 10 points in a 28-to-18 score at halftime. The Eagles connected on 11-of-26 (42.3%) field goal attempts in the first half and boasted a 24-to-12 advantage on the boards over the Storm.
The second half witnessed Northwestern quickly extending their lead as the Eagles went in front 38-to-20 just 6 minutes into the half. Crown College never posed a serious threat again as Northwestern led by as many as 23 points before settling for the 60-45 victory.
Netting 26-of-54 (48.1%) shot attempts on the night, the Eagles produced one of their best shooting performances of the season from the floor. Northwestern out-rebounded Crown by a 40-to-24 margin.
Sophomore post player Heather Thompson (Akaska, S.D./Selby Area High School) was credited with a team-high 17 points, also owning 7 rebounds and 4 steals. Hannah McEvoy (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West High School) added 12 points and 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double performance, while Maggie Chandler (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central Area High School) and Katie Tuseth (White Bear Lake, Minn.) each chipped in 10 points.
Northwestern College is now 47-2 all-time against Crown College. The Eagles will rest up and prepare for the upcoming Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) post-season conference tournament hosted by Presentation College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Northwestern will clash with the University of Minnesota-Morris in semi-final action on Friday, February 24th, at 5:30 p.m.
