The non-conference victory concluded the team’s regular season schedule with a 19-6 record.
Head Coach Machli Joseph started the senior cast of Jessenia Marrero (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis), Diane Ramirez (Sunnyside, N.Y./Francis Lewis), Melissa Freeman (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Beach Channel), Christine Hermoso (St. Francis Prep), and J.R. LaFontaine (Deanza, Calif./Richmond) against Fisher.
Six players finished in double-figure scoring, led by Lafontaine with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Ramirez had six points, 12 assists, five steals, and nine rebounds, while Marrero, the team’s second all-time leading scorer, finished with 11 points. Hermoso scored 12 points and two steals.
The Bearcats will return to action this Sunday against York in the quarterfinal round of the 2006 CUNYAC Tournament. Tip off at tournament hosts College of Staten Island is scheduled for Noon.
Earlier today, the CUNY Athletic Conference hosted its annual awards luncheon at the Water Club in New York City.
The women’s basketball team was well represented in the awards category with sophomore guard Chiresse Paradise (Chicago, ILL./Rich Central) named the conference MVP. She ranks second in the league in scoring (18.0), sixth in assists (3.52), eighth in blocks (0.86), and seventh in steals (3.5).
Marrero and Racquel Reid (Bronx, N.Y./Washington Irving) were both named second team all-stars.
Second-year head coach Machli Joseph was named the CUNYAC Coach of the year. Joseph has compiled a 40-13 overall record and 24-2 mark in conference play.
