Austin 70, LeTourneau 61

LONGVIEW, TX — The LeTourneau University women’s basketball team played one of their best games of the season, but still fell to American Southwest Conference East Division rival Austin College on Thursday night, 70-61.
The LadyJackets (7-17, 4-17) and Lady ‘Roos (14-10, 11-10) played a nip and tuck affair that had five ties and 12 lead changes. Austin College took the lead for good with a jumper from Andrea Bauer with 10:02 left in the second half. LeTourneau would cut the lead to two points with 4:23 left on junior Katrina Visina’s third three-pointer of the game. The Lady ‘Roos took control of the game by scoring the next six points of the game and held on for the victory.
The LadyJackets handled the ball well throughout the game and committed only 12 turnovers and had 17 assists; led by senior Marissa Coop’s team high eight assists. LETU also shot the ball extremely well from three-point range as they made 11-of-24 attempts in the game. Visina, freshman Jaci Cotaya and junior Heidi Sanders each made three trifectas for the LadyJackets.
Bauer and her sister Raney led AC with a combined 43 points as Andrea Bauer finished with a game high 29 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Raney Bauer added 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Brittany Smith dished off eight assists for the visitors who shot 42.6 percent from the floor. The ‘Roos did not allow the Jackets a last second comeback by making 21-of-26 free throws in the contest.
LeTourneau’s super sophomore forward Denee McKay continued to lead the Jackets in scoring with 17 points and eight rebounds, including a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range. The Jackets made 22-of-61 from the field, but were out scored by 15 points at the foul line as they made 6-of-10 free throws.
