UW-Whitewater lost 70-65 to UW-Oshkosh Wednesday evening in Kolf Fieldhouse in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Down ten at half, 40-30, Oshkosh had its largest lead of the second half at 44-32 on a layup by Whitney Tyriver. The Warhawks came back throws by sophomore center Lindsey Buechner. Oshkosh got the lead back to twelve at 44-32 at 17:25, when UW-W went on an 8-0 run, ending with a pair of free throw by sophomore center Lindsey Buechner to make it 44-40 Oshkosh at 14:34. Oshkosh returned to a ten point lead mid way through the period, but the Whitewater pulled within one on a three-pointer by junior forward Megan Baker with 0:44, making it 66-65 Oshkosh. Oshkosh scored the last four points of the game on free throws.
Whitewater was led by Buechner's 14 points, with Baker contributing a season high 13 points, and sophomore guard Trisha Thill adding 10. Buechner also led UW-W with eight rebounds. Titan senior guard Shannon Eggers led both teams with 19 points, senior forward Brittany Herrick added 14, and junior guard Becky Capp chipped in with 13 and a game high ten rebounds. Eggers also led both teams with seven assists.
In a key statistic, Oshkosh hit 13-15 free throws (87%) and Whitewater 5-10 (50%).
Oshkosh is 13-4 overall, 7-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. UW-Whitewater is 9-8 and 3-5. UW-O is in the "others receiving votes" category of the D3hoops.com national Division III poll.
UW-Whitewater's next game will be Wednesday, January 25 at UW-La Crosse. The next home game for the Warhawks Wednesday, February at 7:00 with UW-Stevens Point visiting Kachel Gym of Williams Center.
