Sophomore guard Liz Kolbe made a three-pointer with nine seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra session, then made two more to help the Tigers overcome an early seven-point deficit in overtime.
The Cowgirls held an 11-point lead with 7:09 to play when junior guard Consuelo McElrath made a pair of free throws, but CC countered with a 15-4 run to tie the game at 65-65 with 2:34 left in regulation.
Sophomore forward Paige Whitney poured in a game-high 24 points to pace the Tigers, while Kolbe made five of 16 three-point attempts and finished with 18 points. Senior guard Ashley Steichen reached double-figures with 16 points, while junior forward Liz Schnaitter had a career-high 14 points and had a game-high nine rebounds. Auguste dished out a season-high 10 assists.
Senior forward Terry Salazar had 18 points to lead NMHU. Senior guard Danielle Murphy added 15 points and eight rebounds, while senior guards Sheila Sirmans and Angel Sparks each chipped in with 10.
The Tigers improved to 10-7 and hit double-figure wins for the first time since the 1989-90 team posted a 17-9 record. The victory also snapped a four-game losing streak and evened CC’s record against Division II opponents at 3-3. The Cowgirls dropped to 6-10.
Colorado College will be back in action on Tuesday when the Tigers play host to CU-Colorado Springs in the last of seven games against DII opponents on the 2005-06 schedule.
