Hannah Oken-Berg added 12 points, 10 in the second half and two key field goals with under two minutes left, as the Knights (10-7, 8-4 MIAC) stretched their winning streak to five games.
Carolyn Korchik paced Hamline (7-9, 4-8 MIAC) with 16 points and five rebounds. Krystal Tschumperlin and Kelly Lines came off the bench for 11 and 10 points, respectively.
After Hamline took its largest lead of the second half, 42-38 with 13 minutes left, Carleton ran off 10 unanswered points, building a six-point lead. Hamline, though, wouldn't give up and scored five straight to pull back within one.
Vig and Oken- Berg went to work. Vig scored on a dribble drive and made two free throws, pushing the lead back to five. When the Pipers moved within a point, Vig scored again, followed by an Oken-Berg blocked shot. She then fed fellow first-year player Anna Biewen on the other end for a lay-up. Oken-Berg then scored on consecutive buckets in the paint to stretch the Knights lead to 66-61 with a minute left.
Vig made six straight free throws in the final 50 seconds.
Annie Isler (So./Minneapolis/Hopkins) added 10 points for the Knights, who shot 52 percent for the game and outscored Hamline 24-12 from the free-throw line.
The Pipers controlled the first half, mostly by getting on the offensive glass and turning 11 offensive rebounds into seven second-chance points. The half featured four ties and seven lead changes as neither team led by more than four.
Carleton, which is now a game back of second in the conference, begins a brutal stretch with three of its next four games coming against the three teams ahead of the Knights in the MIAC standings. The Knights begin that string on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the College of St. Benedict. The game, which starts at 1 p.m., can be heard live locally on KQCL 95.5 FM/Power 96 and worldwide on Knights Online.
