Maryville (Mo.) 84, MacMurray 65

ST.LOUIS, Mo. — The Maryville University women’s basketball team kept their winning streak alive tonight with an 84-65 victory over MacMurray College tonight in the Moloney Arena. The Saints improve to a perfect 6-0 in the SLIAC and 13-4 overall while MacMurray drops to 3-3 in the conference and 5-10 overall.

Freshman Sara Wemlinger was back to doing what she’s good at and that was hitting her shots. Wemlinger sank 8-of-13 from the field including 3-of-5 from behind the three-point arc for a team-high 20 points, her second time this season scoring twenty or more points. Wemlinger would also tie with a team-high six rebounds for the game.

Also scoring in double digits was Carrie Snyder and Fallon Rehmert. Snyder ended with 12 points including 6-of-6 from the free throw line, and had five rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Snyder now only needs 17 more points before reaching 1,000 career points. Fallon contributed 10 points while dishing out a team-high six assists and adding two steals.

Megan McCabe added nine points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals in only 15 minutes of playing time while junior Sarah Bartholic had eight points and pulled down two rebounds.

MacMurray’s Erica Ernst and Katie Carls led their squad with 22 and 18 points respectively. Ernst went 7-for-8 from the field and 8-for-10 at the free throw line and recorded four rebounds and four steals for the Highlanders.

The Saints return to action at their home court this Saturday, January 28 when they take on Principia College from Elsah, IL.
