Cornell (5-12 overall, 3-5 Iowa Conference) took charge early, sinking 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) from beyond the arc in the first half in taking a 46-32 lead at the break. The Rams placed four players in double figures and shot 44.3 percent from the floor overall.
Center Ashley Nekola had 12 points for Central (2-15 overall, 2-8 conference). The Dutch were coming off a big 66-64 victory over Wartburg Tuesday but couldn’t sustain the momentum. They were outrebounded 47-32 and shot 36.2 percent, including a chilly 28.6 percent (8-28) in the second half.
Guard Laura Porter had 10 points and a team-high six rebounds along with four assists while freshman guard Mary Swanson had 10 points and five assists. Forward Emily De Jong had nine points and five rebounds.
Cornell forward Anna Skaggs and center Katie Morris each had 16 points while Heather Roberts came off the bench to snare a game-high 13 rebounds in 21 minutes of action.
Central plays its sixth road game in its last eight outings Saturday afternoon at Dubuque, taking on Loras College in a 4 p.m. contest, part of a women’s-men’s doubleheader. The Duhawks were 71-61 winners over Central at Pella Jan. 14. Loras is 6-11 overall and 4-4 in the league after dropping a 59-50 decision at Coe College Friday night.
