Farmingdale State 65, Rutgers-Newark 55

Farmingdale, NY — Senior center Melissa Harry (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) and sophomore forward Mercedes Miller (New York, NY/Manhattan Center) both finished with double-doubles, leading the third-seeded Rams (18-9) to a 65-55 victory over #6-seed Rutgers-Newark (15-12) in tonights ECAC Metro women’s basketball quarterfinal game. Harry tallied 16 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks, while Miller totaled 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Junior guard Rochelle Clark (Bellport, NY/Bellport) finished with eight points, three steals and two assists for Farmingdale State. Sophomore guard Dankery Perez (New York, NY/Manhattan Center) grabbed five rebounds and dished out a game-high five assists.

For Rutgers-Newark, sophomore forward Eni Fageyinbo (Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills) had 16 points, eight boards and four assists. Senior center Christyal Anderson (Newark, NJ/University) added 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while sophomore forward Stephanie Ross (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.

Farmingdale State advances to the ECAC Metro semifinals against the winner of the #2 Montclair State vs. #7 Staten Island game. The semifinal game will take place on Friday, March 3rd at the higher seed. The semifinal winner will play in the Championship game on Saturday, March 4th at the highest remaining seed.
