Rhodes Men's Basketball Announces Incoming Class and Schedule

Memphis, Tennessee ~ The Rhodes College Men’s Basketball have announced their 2009-2010 first year class today. The Lynx will add six new faces to go along with the eight returning letterman. The incoming class is highlighted below.
Reid Cates 6’1 160# Guard Westview Martin, TN Reid played four years of varsity basketball under Coach Brian Haskins, starting every game his senior year. He averaged 10 points per game and was named to the All-District 2AA Team. Cates was also named to the District 2AA Academic Team. Andrew Galow 6’4 175# Guard Oswego Oswego, IL Andrew averaged 11.1 points per game as a senior and 17 as a junior. His senior season he set the single season assist record for Oswego. His senior season his high school team placed second in the state, a first for Oswego. Andrew was a team captain since his sophomore season and named Illinois All-State his senior year. Theo Hartwell 6’3 205# Forward Academic Magnet Charleston, SC Theo was a two year letter winner at Academic Magnet. As a senior he led the team in rebounds, blocks and third in scoring. He closed out his high school career averaging a double-double and setting the school record for rebounds in one game (21) and blocks in a game (6). Brad Luckett 6’5 230# Forward Christian Brothers Cordova, TN Brad was a four year letter winner at Christian Brothers High School and a three year starter. He was selected All-District for three years and named MVP of the regional tournament. He was a senior captain for the team that placed second in the state. Brad is a transfer from Christian Brothers University. Joey Miller 6’4 180# Forward Athens Academy Athens, GA Joey was named first team All-region as well as All-Northeast Georgia his senior year. He was named First Team All-Oconnee County. Joey won the Athens Academy Spartan Award as well as the Basketball Coaches Award. Jonathan Smith 6’5 190# Forward St. George’s Bartlett, TN Jonathan was named All Region his senior year, a year in which St. George’s placed second in state. Jonathan was a member of the team that won back to back district and region championships. He averaged 14.4 points per game and 5 rebounds per game his senior season. He shot 40% from the three point line and 89% from the free throw line. Jonathan won the Citizenship Award as a senior and basketball’s most improved. Rhodes College will begin their season with an exhibition game against NCAA Division 1foe, University of Tennessee at Martin, on November 9th. The game is set for 7:30 PM tipoff in Martin, Tennessee. The Lynx then officially open their 2009-2010 season against Principia College in Elsah, Illinois. Principia and Rhodes squared of twice last season with Rhodes winning both games. The Lynx will host two tournaments on successive weekends. The Rhodes College Tipoff Classic hosted by Hampton Inn of Poplar will take place on November 20th and 21st. Rhodes will face Greenville College on the 20th and Westminster (MO) on the 21st. Hendrix College is the final team participating in the tournament. On Thanksgiving weekend, Rhodes will host Sewanee, Earlham College and Principia in the Thanksgiving Classic. November 27th Rhodes will tipoff at 7:00 pm against Principia College and then on the 28th against Earlham. Rhodes will also face University of Dallas and Freewill Baptist College in their final 3 non-conference games. The SCAC opener for Rhodes will have them hosting DePauw University on December 4th and Centre College on December 6th. Centre College is the reigning SCAC Tournament Champion. The Lynx will open 2010 on the road against SCAC foe Sewanee on January 1st and Oglethorpe University on the 3rd. The Lynx also make SCAC trips to Austin College, Colorado College, Southwestern University, Trinity University, Centre College, DePauw University and Birmingham Southern College. Rhodes will host SCAC home games against Birmingham Southern College, Millsaps College, Hendrix College, Sewanee and Oglethorpe University.
