Women's
Emmanuel Head Coach Andy Yosinoff enters his 33rd season at the helm. Yosinoff eclipsed the 600-win plateau last year and is currently ranked among the top five in career victories for Division III women's basketball coaches. Yosinoff will look to 2009 D3Hoops.com Honorable Mention All-American Iman Davis (Toms River, N.J.) to lead the charge in 2010. Last season, the two-time GNAC Player of the Year led the Saints in four major categories, including scoring (18.5 ppg), rebounding (7.2 rpg), assists (3.8 apg), and steals (2.8 spg). Also returning to the starting line-up for Emmanuel is the junior tandem of Kristin LeBel (Tolland, Conn.) and Casey Shevlin (Medford, N.Y.). LeBel and Shevlin will take the pressure off of Davis, as they both provide strong scoring and playmaking in the Saints’ backcourt. LeBel averaged 16 points per game and drained a team-high 65 three-pointers last season. Shevlin dished out over 90 assists, while averaging close to 5 points per game. The Emmanuel frontcourt does not lack experience either. Tri-captain Abby Brenkach (Germantown, N.Y.) returns for her senior season, along with sophomore Liz Brooks ( Charlton, Mass.). The duo combined for 9 rebounds and 9 points per game last season, while leading the team in blocked shots. Shooting guard Breanna Ockimey (Philadelphia, Pa.) is back for her sophomore year, after chipping in with over 6 points per game last season. Tri-captain Meredith Shaw (Yarmouth, Me.) will look to provide strong rebounding and senior leadership down low for the Saints. Yosinoff once again brought in a strong recruiting class to compliment his ten returning veterans. Among the newcomers is Division II junior transfer, Pamela Mobley (Worcester, Mass.). Yosinoff describes Mobley, who transferred to Emmanuel from Assumption College, as a “strong center who has great rebounding and shot-blocking ability.” Rookie Fiona O’Dwyer (Stamford, Conn.) will see quality minutes as a small forward in the Saints’ line-up. O’Dwyer is a Connecticut All-State selection coming out of Stamford High School. Freshman guard Tiaunna Nieves (Springfield, Mass.) was an All-Western Mass pick as a high school senior coming out of Springfield Commerce. Yosinoff will also look to freshmen point guards Meaghan Osceola (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Chenae Earle (South Orange, N.J.), who will see minutes relieving Shevlin in the backcourt. The Saints are set to play an extremely tough schedule this year. Emmanuel will face three teams early in the year, which have all been ranked in the top ten nationally in the 2009-10 D3hoops.com preseason poll. Among them are the second-ranked Jeffs of Amherst College, who knocked Emmanuel out of last season’s national tournament. Other tough competitors for the Saints this year include North Park and Messiah, which Emmanuel will face in the California Lutheran Holiday Classic on their winter trip in California. |
