Kings Point 100, Wilkes 98 (OT)
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Kings Point proudly displays T-shirts inscribed with the words "Road Warriors." The Mariners will be able to don those shirts one more time as their improbable run in the NCAA Division III Tournament continued on Saturday night with a thrilling 100-98 overtime win over Wilkes University before a crowd of 2,000 in the Marts Center.

With the win, the Mariners improve their overall record to 22-7 and move into a Sweet 16 matchup with Clark next Friday at a site to be determined. Wilkes the top-ranked team in the Middle Atlantic Region, sees their season close with a 23-3 mark.

Wilkes had to rally from a five-point deficit, 88-83, with 0:50 left in regulation to force an extra session. Tom Stambaugh hit a pair of free throws with 0:49 left to cut the lead to 88-85. Dave Jannuzzi then drilled a three-point field goal with just 0:04 left to knot the count at 88-88. Following a timeout, Nate Barton was fouled on the inbounds play and converted both ends of a two-shot foul situation give the Mariners a 90-88 lead with 2.7 seconds left.

Wilkes advanced the ball to midcourt on their ensuing inbounds pass, and following a timeout, got the ball into the hands of Jannuzzi on the baseline. Jannuzzi took one dribble and layed a shot up that went through the hoop as time expired.

In overtime, Wilkes took a 92-90 lead just 43 seconds into the overtime period on a basket by Jannuzzi. Barton then hit three free throws after being fouled on a three-point field goal attempt to put his team up 93-92 with 3:56 left. Jannuzzi answered with two charity tosses of his own with 3:32 left to give Wilkes a 94-93 advantage.

Kevin Bernick would regain the lead for Kings Point at the 1:58 mark when he connected on a three-point field goal to make it 96-94. Garrett then hit two free throws to extend the lead to 98-94 with 0:53 left. Jannuzi then scored on a drive, and following a Mariner turnover, John Boylan hit a driving layup to tie the game at 98-98 with 0:30 left.

On the ensuing possession, Boylan came up with a steal on the inbound pass to give Wilkes a chance for the lead. Brad Sechler was fouled with 23 seconds to play, but couldn't convert on either charity toss. Fred Slanovec pulled down the rebound on the second miss for the Mariners, who held the ball for one shot. With eight seconds left Garrett began his drive towards the hoop. He went to his right and converted the layin with three ticks to play to give the Mariners a 100-98 lead. Wilkes had one final attempt to win the game, but Dave Plisko's desperation three at the buzzer was too strong.

Barton and Garrett led five Kings Point players in double figures with 21 tallies each. Bernick chipped in with 17 points, Slanovec had 16 tallies, while Seth Cobb finished the night with 14 points.

Jannuzzi, who was held to five first-half points, finished with a game-high 24 points in his final game for the Blue and Gold. Stambaugh had 18 points and eight rebounds, kevin Walsh had 15 points and nine rebounds, Sechler had 13 points and eight caroms, while Ron McIntyre contributed 10 points.
