GETTYSBURG, Pa. — Three players scored 20 or more points for Lycoming and the Warriors held Gettysburg to 8-for-43 from 3-point range as Lycoming defeated Gettysburg 78-59 in an NCAA Tournament first round game.

Senior forward Chris Napier scored 22 and junior guard Thomas Wesner and sophmore center Matt Stackhouse added 20 apiece as Lycoming shot 53% from the floor and 86% from the line to advance to the second round.

Down 38-26 early in the second half, Gettysburg (20-7) scored nine unanswered points to cut the lead to 38-35, then got a 3-pointer from Curtis McNeil and a putback from Jim Natale later in the half to cut the deficit again to three points, 55-52.

From there, however, it turned into the Napier show, as he hit a pair of free throws, a pull-up 3-pointer and a baseline jumper to make it 62-54. Stackhouse and Wesner added baskets and it was all free throws the rest of the way as the Warriors (20-7) went 12-for-12 from the line.

"As a senior I just tried to step up and help out," said Napier, who shot 6-for-12 from the floor and 8-for-8 from the line. "Tonight I felt like I needed to be offensive-minded."

Lycoming was sufficiently defensive-minded as well, patient against Gettysburg's patient offense.

"Shooting's a variable, and it was a big variable tonight," said Gettysburg head coach George Petrie. "We just didn't shoot well. (And) they made shots. There were some shots where you said 'Wow, that went in?'."

One of those was Wesner's jumper during Lycoming's final run. The junior guard from nearby Dillsburg, Pa., drove the lane, dribbled far baseline, then hit a turnaround fadeaway jumper from about 15 feet out.

"When they're falling, they're falling," said Wesner. "It was a big moment for us."

The Bullets were led by senior guard Curtis McNeil, who finished his career with a 28-point night on 8-for-23 shooting, 5-for-17 from 3-point range. "I guess it hasn't sunk in that my career's over. Yes, we lost, but we can give them momentum going into next year and the future."
