Beavers Hours Before Thursday's Season Opener

NEW YORK – Second year head coach Tom Green and the City College of New York men's basketball team are just hours away from Thursday's season opener as the Beavers host Vaughn College at 6 PM at Nat Holman Gymnasium.

Live stats will be provided by clicking on the link on Senior Israel Vickers will be the catalyst of this year's Beavers squad as the starting point guard and co-captain.

"Israel is the quarterback of our program and if he plays well, we have a chance to play well," said Green.

Vickers played in all 25 games for CCNY last season and averaged 11.9 points in 32.2 minutes of action. Junior Brandon Reeves led the club with 6.2 rebounds / game before an injury cut his season short and begins the 2012-13 campaign as the starting power forward.

"He is very athletic and intelligent on the court and continues to get better every day," Green said about Reeves, City College's other captain.

The Beavers add nine newcomers to seven returning players.


Tip-off follows CCNY's first-ever Deal or No Deal Night as the top two teams will receive a prize courtesy of the CCNY Athletic Department. The first place team receives a $150 gift certificate to Café One while the second place team receives a $60 gift certificate to Subsconscious. Fans can still register by visiting the CCNY athletic office (MR-20).

Veteran's Day Ceremony is also on the slate for Thursday as those who served will be honored before the 6 PM game. Veterans will be honored beginning at 5:30 PM.
