CENTER VALLEY, Pa.
The No. 9 DeSales women shot just 19.2% from the field and scored just 11 second-half points as the No. 8 King’s Lady Monarchs earned a split of the season series with a 52-30 win in MAC Freedom action on Saturday afternoon.
King’s (16-2, 7-1) outscored DeSales (17-2, 6-2) 22-0 over the first 7:10 of the second half to break open what was a tie ballgame at halftime (19-19). The Bulldogs scored just 11 points during the second half and shot 17.4% in the last twenty minutes of action, while King’s scorched the nets at a 44.8% clip in the second period.
The Lady Monarchs also jumped out to a big lead to start the game as they led 15-3 at the 14:34 mark of the first half. DSU rallied and held KC to just four points the rest of the half to forge a tie heading into the locker rooms. DSU shot 20.7% in the first half and King’s converted on just 29.0% in the opening period.
Senior Patty Hahn grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and senior Teri Antolick and junior Amy Yencho led DSU scorer’s with six points each.
Senior Carissa Ryan led the Lady Monarchs with 12 points and eight rebounds. Fellow senior Jen Wozniak tallied 10 points and junior Tiffini Varrasse also netted 10 points. Senior Nikki Kingston totaled eight markers including the 1,000th of her career.
