Colin Camacho was 5-for-8 from the floor and 8-for-8 from the line for Washington College.
Washington College 96, Franklin and Marshall 86
Feb 1, 2003

CHESTERTOWN, Md. — The Washington College Shoremen led for all but the first 2:44 of the game en route to a 96-86 home win over the 15th ranked team in Division III, Franklin & Marshall, this afternoon at Cain Athletic Center. The 10-point win marks the largest margin of victory this season for the Shoremen (6-12, 3-4 Centennial) and the largest margin of defeat this season for the Diplomats (16-3, 5-2). The victory was also Washington's fourth in its last five games.

The Shoremen took the lead for good at 8-7 with 17:16 to play in the first half when sophomore guard Colin Camacho drained a jumper. That bucket was part of a 12-0 run by Washington that ended with a Camacho 3-pointer with 14:02 left in the half that gave Washington a 16-7 edge. The Shoremen went on to lead by as many as 13 points in the period and took a 44-34 lead into the intermission when freshman guard Dustin Abbate drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer off an assist from Camacho.

F&M came out hot in the second half and cut the lead to four a 46-43 with 17:39 left on a pair of free throws by Frank Hughes, but a 14-5 spurt by the Shoremen pushed the lead back to 60-48 with 14:06 left. Franklin & Marshall would not go away, however, and twice cut the lead down to two -- on a pair of free throws by Asaf Ganot with 4:38 left that made it 82-80 and on a layup by Steve Juskin with 2:16 left that made it 84-82.

Camacho answered Juskin's bucket with a three at the other end with 1:51 left. An F&M lay-up by Bob Lynch got the Diplomats within three at 87-84 with 1:32 to play, but freshman forward Jonathan Webb fired home a three-pointer with 1:03 to go to push the lead back to 90-84. The Shoremen made six-of-eight free throws and F&M missed its final five field goal attempts the rest of the way as Washington came away with the win.

Camacho led the Shoremen with a team-high 21 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field, including 3-for-6 from beyond the arc, and 8-for-8 shooting from the line. Webb finished with a double-double of 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while sophomore guard John "China" Alexander tallied 18 points and three blocked shots. Junior guard David Horvath added 14 points in the win.

Juskin led all scorers with 28 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field. Duran Searles added 20 points for F&M, while Bob Lynch added 13 off the bench.

Washington shot 51% from the field in the game, including 58% in the second half. F&M shot 44% from the field. The Shoremen connected on 10 of 26 3-pointers in the game, while the Diplomats were just 2-for-16 from long range. Prior to today's game, F&M had not given up more than 83 points in a game this season.

The Shoremen have now knocked off a nationally ranked F&M squad in each of their past two meetings in Chestertown. Washington topped the then-No. 13 Diplomats 85-73 on Jan. 27, 2001.
