Tommies win conference playoffs for fifth year in row

Senior guard Katie Stone scored a career-high 23 points and broke the conference single-season record for 3-pointers as No. 8-ranked and top-seeded St. Thomas (24-3) won its fifth consecutive MIAC women's basketball playoff title with Saturday's 77-65 home victory over St. Mary's (21-7).

The Toms, who have won 14 in a row, led 40-26 at halftime and pushed the lead to 35 early in the fourth quarter. They converted 48 percent from the floor and had only 11 turnovers. Kaitlin Langer had 14 points and nine rebounds, Lauren Fischer had 13 points, and Paige Gernes scored 10 points.

Sam Jones scored 15 points and Brandi Blattner added eight points and 16 rebounds for SMU.

Stone has 74 treys in 2015-16 and the UST team is closing in on the conference season record for 3-pointers with 210.
