Hamline Rally Falls Short

More news about: Hamline

Alaina Quaranta sparked a second half rally with 17 points but the HU women's basketball team took their first loss of the season, 70-63, to Wis-Stout Tuesday at Hutton Arena, Chloe Graves and Reilly Geistfeld added 13 apiece as the Pipers roared back from a 17 point deficit to make a game of it in the fourth quarter.

Quaranta got HU off to a good start by scoring the first five Hamline points. The Blue Devils (2-2) went on a 16-2 run to end the first quarter with a 22-9 lead. It was 42-25 at halftime and the margin was still 16 when the Pipers erupted for 10 points in three minutes to cut the margin to nine. In the fourth frame, a Graves basket and a Geistfeld three pointer withered the margin down to five at 62-57 with 4:12 left. Later, Quaranta's layup put it at five again at 66-61 with two minutes left.

Hamline could get no closer. Geistfeld and Ivannie Robertson topped Hamline's 43 rebound effort with seven each. Geistfeld also had a game high five steals. Graves led the assists attack with five.

HU is off until Monday, November 28 when they host Crown in a non-conference game at Hutton Arena (7:00 p.m.). The MIAC season opens November 30 at Augsburg.
