Gibbons Named Preseason All-American

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Following a record-breaking junior campaign, senior Emily Gibbons (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) was recognized as one of the top players in the nation by heading into the upcoming women's basketball season.
Gibbons was lauded as a second-team preseason All-American by, becoming just the second player from Gettysburg College to earn the honor. Caitlin Moser '11 was named a fourth-team preseason All-American in 2010-11.
The senior forward emerged as one of the top players in the country last season when she was named All-America Honorable Mention by, All-Mid-Atlantic Region First Team, Centennial Conference Player of the Year, and All-Centennial Conference First Team. She set eight school records, including total points (530) and total rebounds (372). Gibbons led the conference in points per game (18.9), rebounds per game (13.3), field-goal percentage (.580), and double-doubles (22).
Gibbons finished fourth in the nation in double-doubles with a program record 22. At one point, she recorded a double-double in 14 consecutive contests, establishing a new Centennial record. She also finished top 10 in the country in rebounds (third), field goals made (fourth), defensive rebounds per game (fifth), and rebounds per game (seventh).
In a road trip to McDaniel College, Gibbons became the first Bullet ever to post 30 points and 20 rebounds in a game, finishing with a career-high 30 points and snagging 21 caroms. She grabbed double-figure rebounds in 23 games, including a career-high 22 at Washington College and she notched double-figure points in all but one game.
Gibbons became just the fourth Gettysburg women's player to reach 1,000 career points as a junior and she enters her senior campaign with 1,039. She ranks top-10 in program history in defensive rebound average (1st, 6.6 rpg), field goal percentage (4th, .536), rebounding average (4th, 9.3 rpg), defensive rebounds (6th, 500), scoring average (7th, 13.7 ppg), field goals made (10th, 435), and rebounds (10th, 705).
Gettysburg finished 20-8 overall and 14-6 in conference play last season. The team opens the year with an exhibition at University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. The Bullets begin the regular season against Lehman College at the University of Mary Washington Tournament next Friday at 5 p.m.
