HILLSDALE, Mich. – Kalamazoo's Dirk Rhinehart ended his record-breaking free-throw streak when he missed his fourth attempt of the night Dec. 17 in a 91-78 loss to Division II Hillsdale. Rhinehart's record run stopped at 84, breaking the Division III record of 70 set by Illinois Wesleyan's Korey Coon from Feb. 13-Dec. 4, 1999. Rhinehart's streak started Jan. 3, 2001. The third team D3hoops.com Preseason All-American also set a school record with 47 consecutive free throws in a season, breaking the mark of 44 set by teammate Nathan Burns last season.
The men's record for most consecutive free throws in one season is still held by Mike Michelson, who hit 59 in a row for Coast Guard in the 1989-90 season.
