No. 14 Wheaton (Ill.) started its season with a win over No. 12 Texas-Dallas in the rare opener featuring three All-Americans. On the men's side, No. 2 UW-Oshkosh started its title defense with a win, No. 6 Emory impressed and Johns Hopkins upset No. 8 CNU.

Wheaton jumped out to a double-digit lead early and held off Texas-Dallas late to win the opener between ranked foes, 66-62. The Thunder (1-0) scored 11 of the game's first 13 points and maintained a 15-point lead entering the fourth quarter. The Comets (0-1) pulled within four points with a 7-1 run but Wheaton made enough free throws down the stretch to preserve the win. Recap
The three preseason All-Americans did not disappoint as Wheaton forward Hannah Frazier paced the Thunder with 26 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and three assists. Raenett Hughes rang up 26 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals for Texas-Dallas and Victoria Pena tallied 10 points, six assists and five rebounds in the loss.
No. 20 Messiah weathered No. 15 Christopher Newport's pressing defense and capsized the Captains, 74-50. The Falcons (2-0) managed just 17 field goals versus 28 turnovers but they also held CNU (1-1) to 25 percent shooting and rode Megan Zimmerman's double-double to victory. She finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds and Leah Springer added 16 points for Messiah.
Trinity (Texas) opened its season with a statement win at home by blasting No. 6 George Fox, 74-55. Ashley Milton's jumper gave the Tigers (1-0) an 11-point lead to start the second quarter and they led by double digits the rest of the way. Milton finished with 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting, including four 3-pointers, and Trinity outscored the Bruins 36-6 from behind the arc.
In the first game of Trinity's weekend event, No. 9 St. Thomas shut down East Texas Baptist 54-40. Brynne Roland scored 12 points in 17 minutes for the Tommies (1-0) who held ETBU to 21 points through three quarters.
Carly Coulthart came off the bench for No. 19 UW-La Crosse and blocked the potential game-tying three to preserve the Eagles' 58-55 win over Carroll. La Crosse built a 58-48 point lead with under five minutes to play before the Pioneers rallied. Carroll got the ball off the La Crosse turnover and called time out to set up the final shot that was blocked by Coulthart.

No. 2 UW-Oshkosh opened its title defense with a 74-67 victory at No. 17 Augustana as five players scored double figures for the Titans (1-0). The Vikings (0-1) scored the game's first six points, but Oshkosh scored the next 13 and never trailed again. Oshkosh shot 42 percent from three (11-of-26) with Eric Peterson, Will Mahoney and David Vlotho knocking down three triples apiece. Jarrett Tribble scored 17 points off the bench for Augustana.
No. 6 Emory used a 12-0 run in the first half to build a comfortable lead at No. 19 Guilford and a 12-2 run in the second half to put the game away, as the Eagles eased to victory, 89-67. Emory (1-0) shot 54 percent from the floor and got 35 points on 10-for-17 shooting from front court Matt Davet and Lawrence Rowley. Romin Williams added 18 points with four 3-pointers for Emory.
Johns Hopkins scored six points in the final 19 seconds to upset No. 9 Christopher Newport, 78-74. The game turned around with 19 seconds left when the Captains (0-1) fouled Joey Kerns and sent the Glue Jays guard to the foul line. Kern made the first free throw, missed the second and teammate Chid Nnake grabbed the rebound and scored a three-point play, giving Hopkins a four-point possession. Braeden Johnson added two free throws after a CNU miss to put the game away.
No. 1 Swarthmore took care of Eastern 100-78 in a game where the top-ranked Garnet used 18 players, six of which scored double figures.
Whittier bounced back from Friday night's loss and bounced past No. 11 Texas-Dallas, 91-86. Kenyatta Louder's four-point play capped a 7-0 game-clinching run for the Poets (1-1). Louder finished with 17 points and eight rebounds while Jalen Weber and Michael Foster each scored 24 points for the Comets (1-1).
