Quincy, MA - The Daniel Webster College men's basketball team had five players scoring in double figures Thursday night as the Eagles put away non-conference host Eastern Nazarene College 84-67 in their first matchup of the new year.
Senior guard Chris Hanson (Salem, Mass.) led the Eagles (7-3) with 16 points while garnering four assists and four rebounds. Rookie Daris Cosby (Columbia, S.C.) and senior Eric Suarez (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 15 points apiece while senior Chris Voukides (Salem, N.H.) tallied 14 and rookie Aiden Collins (Paterson, N.J.) chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
Suarez led Daniel Webster on the boards with eight while Cosby and Collins grabbed six each.
DWC trailed by as many as five (11-6) in the early going but took the lead for good on a Cosby jumper for a 30-28 lead sparking a 9-2 run to close the half for a 37-30 lead.
The Eagles pulled away shooting 57-percent in the second half. ENC (4-7) would pull as close as 56-51 on a Flakes layup with 9:16 to go but Collins answered with an inside move and a Hanson trey built the lead back to 10 with 8:29 left and the Lions got no closer than nine the rest of the way.
Sophomore Aaron Johnson scored 16 points and gathered five rebounds for the Lions, while freshman John Flakes grabbed 11 rebounds to lead all players and added 14 points. Newly acquired Max Barbosa added 12 points, four assists and five rebounds.
Now 5-1 over its last six outings, Daniel Webster looks to keep its NECC record untarnished on Saturday as they travel to Southern Vermont for a 1:00 p.m. matchup.
