CHICAGO -- Emory University's Alex Greven and Austin Claunch scored 18 points each to lead the Eagles to a 78-70 win over the University of Chicago in University Athletic Association men's basketball action Sunday at the Ratner Athletics Center.
Emory (11-3 overall, 2-1 UAA) led by as many as 10 points in the first half before taking a 46-41 lead at the break.
The Eagles maintained the advantage in the second stanza until a pair of free throws from Matt Johnson put the Maroons on top 64-63 with 5:50 left in the contest.
Emory took the lead for good, 67-66, on a Claunch layup at the 4:28 mark.
Tom Williams' three-pointer with 1:15 to go brought Chicago to within two points, 72-70, but the Eagles scored the game's final six points. Claunch and Alex Gulotta each made a pair of free throws in the last 17 seconds of play.
Williams (pictured) grabbed 10 rebounds en route to his fourth double-double of the year. Tommy Sotos and Matt MacKenzie finished with 15 and 13 points, respectively, for Chicago.
Sotos connected on four of eight three-point attempts, while Williams was good on three of five tries.
Chicago (5-9, 2-1) held slim edges in field goal shooting (46% to 44%) and rebounding (33 to 31), but Emory committed just nine turnovers to 15 for the Maroons, who entered the game averaging a UAA-low 11.8 per contest.
