York, Pa. – Senior center Sam Burum (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) exploded for a career-high 30 points as No. 16 St. Mary's College of Maryland (17-4, 11-1 CAC) extended its win streak to five straight with an 82-75 road win at York College of Pennsylvania (13-8, 7-5 CAC) in Capital Athletic Conference action Wednesday night.  Burum was nearly perfect from the field with a nine-of-10 effort, including drilling a triple in the second half.  He was solid as well from the charity stripe as he made 11-of-13 free throw attempts.

Guards Alex Franz (Catonsville, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) and Deon Queen (Pasadena, Md./Long Reach) also scored in double digits for the Seahawks.  Franz recorded his second double-double of the season with 18 points and season-best 11 assists while adding season-high six steals.  Queen chipped in 10 points in 13 minutes off the bench.

Despite the hosts tying up the game twice in the first half, St. Mary's never trailed in the contest.  The Seahawks stretched a 6-0 start to the game to an 11-point margin with 11:01 remaining in the half as Franz connected on his first of two long-range goals.  The Spartans erased the 11-point deficit, tying the score once at 4:52 and again 20 second later, before St. Mary's closed out the half on an 11-4 run for a 36-29 lead at the break.

Burum and Franz led all scorers with 14 first-half points while Franz picked up six assists and five steals in the first 20 minutes.

The Seahawks shot 56.0 percent from the field in the second half and owned their largest lead of the game with 5:04 left as Burum finished off a feed from senior forward Kyle Jarczynski (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall) for a 68-53 advantage.

St. Mary's finished with 56.6 percent from the field for the game and forced 21 Spartan turnovers.

York's junior forward Paul Kouvaris (Baltimore, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) tallied a career-best 28 points and 13 rebounds in the losing cause as the Spartans recorded a 40-27 rebounding margin.

The Seahawks return to action Saturday, February 5 when the Seahawks host Marymount (Va.) University in conference action at 4:00 pm.  Saturday is White Out Cancer Day and the Seahawks ask all fans to wear white and bring a $1 to donate to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
