MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Edgewood College men's basketball team suffered a rare shooting slump in the second half of their Northern Athletics Conference Challenge Game at MSOE. The Raiders held the Eagles to just 28.6 percent in the second half, and claimed the third seed in next week's NAC Tournament with a 64-53 victory at the Kern Center.

Edgewood College junior Kent Faurote helped the Eagles off to a flying start, scoring nine of his team's first 11 points on the way to a quick 11-3 lead. However, the Raiders behind Austin Meier roared back with an 8-0 run to tie the game. The teams would trade the lead five times, before Meier closed the half by scoring MSOE's final three points for a 30-27 lead. Faurote finished the half with 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting, while Edgewood College (16-9) shot 45.5 percent as a team.

Senior Jeff Barczak scored the first basket of the second half and junior Ben Wisniewski brought the Eagles back within two points later at 39-37 with 14:29 left to play. From there MSOE (19-6) went on an 11-3 run, during which Edgewood College missed seven straight shots from the field and committed two turnovers. The Raiders would push their advantage as high as 56-42 on an Eric Bohrer layup with 3:14 left in the game.

The Eagles attempted to send the Raiders to the free throw line to get back in the game, and MSOE obliged by missing five straight free throws with less than three minutes to play. However, Edgewood College misfired three times from the three-point line, and MSOE's Meier and Bennett Deacon eventually put the game away, making five of six charity tosses between them.

Faurote finished with his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Wisniewski hit a pair of three-point baskets and ended the game with 16 points. Nkemnji added seven points, while Cashton Craig had a team-high six assists. The Eagles, who entered the game shooting 40 percent from the three-point line, went just 3-for-17 (17.6 percent) for the game.

Meier had 23 points and 11 rebounds for MSOE, becoming the Raiders all-time leading rebounder in the process. Deacon chipped in 11 points as MSOE set a new school record for victories in a season with 19.

With the loss, Edgewood College becomes the fourth seed in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament. The Eagles will host fifth-seeded Lakeland College in a quarterfinal game on Wednesday evening at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
