FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Wesley College's Chris Douglas (Landover, Md./Jericho Prep Academy) and Darrell Johnson (New Castle, Del./Howard) combined for 43 points, but Mary Washington picked up an 87-85 win in the regular season finale.
The Eagles (15-9, 9-7 CAC) carried a 35-29 lead into the half as the the Wolverines (16-8, 12-4 CAC) were saddled with first half foul trouble for the second consecutive game.
Wesley, however, knotted the game at 37-37 on a bucket by Sean McAndrew (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) just over two minutes into the second half.
The Wolverines would lead for much of the half, taking six point leads on several occasions, including 60-54 after a Douglas jumper with 9:48 left in the game. Mary Washington eventually tied the game at 75-75 with 4:19 to play.
The score stood at 80-80 before a three by Ryan Farrar with 1:07 left gave teh Eagles the lead for good.
Douglas shot 8-of-14 and hit a pair of threes on his way to a game-high 23 points, his fourth 20-point game of the season. Darrell Johnson added 20 points, while Kevin Johnson (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) netted 11.
Foul trouble continued to plague the Wolverines throughout the game. Both Douglas and Paul Reynolds (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) fouled out, while five others had four fouls in a game where the team was whistled for 34 team fouls.
The two teams combined to shoot 82 free throws in the game.
Ryan Henderson led Mary Washington with 18 points, while Farrar added 17. Tad Dickman had a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Wesley will receive a bye in the upcoming CAC Playoffs before facing the winner of a first round match up between York (Pa.) and Salisbury in the semifinals on February 24.
