ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Rosemont College men's basketball team survived a spirited comeback early in the second half from visiting Philadelphia Biblical University to earn their fourth consecutive victory. The final score was Rosemont 74, PBU 59. The win elevated the Raven's overall record to 5-3, and they are now about the "500" mark in the CSAC with a 3-2 conference record. The Crimson Eagles fell to 2-6 (0-4) with the loss.
The Ravens turned on the offense in the last 10 minutes of the first half. Leading 12-10 with 9:40 left in the first, the Ravens outscored the Crimson Eagles 23-19 to take a comfortable 35-19 lead into the break.
PBU was able to successfully move inside with their post players to start the second half, and the Crimson Eagles opened the half on a 7-0 run to pull to within 35-28. From that point the Ravens made adjustments and were able to put additional distance between themselves and the visitors. Rosemont extended their lead to their largest, 19 points, with 1:49 left in the game before the Crimson Eagles made a run in the last seconds to get to the final score.
Overall, although the Crimson Eagles shot a better percentage from the field compared to Rosemont (44% to 41.7%), The Ravens again shot well from downtown, scoring on 11-of-27 from outside the arc (41.7%), accounting for 33 of their 74 points. The Ravens also turned the ball over only eight times in the game compared to PBU's 15 turnovers.
Leading scorer for the Ravens was Mitch Carsillo (Collingswood/Collingswood, NJ) with 19 points. Also hitting double-figures were Justin Chaney (Williamstown/Williamstown, NJ) and DeAndre Jordan (Henry E. Lackey/Marbury, MD) with 10 points apiece. Both Harrison Carsillo (Collingswood/Collingswood, NJ) and Derrick Carter (Millville/Millville, NJ) each grabbed 10 boards for the Ravens.
PBU's Wendell Torres had a double-double, leading the Crimson Eagles in scoring (20) and rebounds (15). Seth Heinicke and Adam Derus each chipped in 11 points for the Crimson Eagles.
The Ravens play non-conference games on the road for their final two games on the 2011 calendar. They next play a doubleheader on Friday, 12/16 at Arcadia University. Their game against the Knights is scheduled for an 8:00pm tip-off.
