Jackson and Rogers Lead Trine in Win Over Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio – Trine University's junior tandem of Ian Jackson (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) and Scott Rogers (Waterford, Mich./Kettering) poured in 64 of the Thunders 86 points in their 86-76 win over Heidelberg University. The Thunder won their fifth straight game to improve to 6-2 on the season while snapping a two-game winning streak for the Student Princes. 

The Thunder led early on after making the first bucket of the game, but Heidelberg scored seven unanswered points to take a 10-4 lead just three minutes in. Trine battled back to tie the game before  pulling out in front after going on an 18-5 run. The Student Princes fought back to tie the game at 28 all with just three minutes left in the first half. The Thunder outscored Heidelberg 14-5 to close the half and entered the intermission with a 42-33 edge.

Jackson scored the first points of the second half to give the Thunder their first double-digit lead of the game. Trine led by as many as 15 points in the second half on two separate occasions, with the last coming at the 16:08 mark when Rogers converted on a three-point play after being fouled on a lay-up. Heidelberg would cut the deficit to as few as six points with three minutes left in the game. From there Trine would again push their lead back to double-digits with less than 30 seconds to play to secure the victory.

Jackson scored a game-high 34 points on 14-of-24 shooting while Rogers scored a season-high 28 points on 12-of-19 shooting. Rogers also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go along with three steals. Sophomore Chris Kent (Angola, Ind./Angola) added in nine points while grabbing a game-high five steals. 

Trine had a big night in the paint as they out-scored the Student Princes 62-14. Trine also turned 22 Heidelberg turnovers into 26 points. Trine made a season-high 35 shots from the field while also shooting a season-high 55.6% from the floor. The Student Princes shot just 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the field and a season-high 81.8 percent (27-of-33) from the charity stripe. 

Trine will finish up their 2011 home season when they host Franklin College on December 19 at 7:00 p.m.
