Fisher Holds Off Devil Rally to Capture Tourney Title

(Pittsford, N.Y.) – The Dickinson College men's basketball team tried to rally late, but fell to the hosts in the final of the St. John Fisher College/Woodcliff Hotel & Spa Tournament, 78-70.

 

First-year Gerry Wixted (Moorestown, N.J./Lawrenceville School) led the Devils with a double-double, recording game-highs with 27 points and 10 rebounds, including five on the offensive end.

 

Fisher went on a 15-2 run to take a 21-8 lead with 11:39 remaining in the first half. They stretched the margin to 19 before a Wixted three-point play made the score, 36-20, at the break.

 

The hosts held a double-digit lead for most of the second half, pulling in front by 20, 63-43, with 6:23 remaining in the game. The Devils used a 9-0 run to cut into the lead and pulled within eight, 76-68, on a Wixted triple with 35 seconds remaining. He followed a pair of Eagle free throws with a lay-up for the final of 78-70.

 

Wixted hit 10-of-19 shots from the floor and converted 5-of-7 free throws on the night. Sophomore Adam Honig (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) knocked-down 10-of-12 free throws and a pair of three-pointers, scoring 20 points on the afternoon.

 

Senior Chris Heine (Spring Lake, N.J./St. Rose) added seven points while junior Chris Barsanti (Hummelstown, Pa./Tilton School) tallied six points, two assists, a pair of steals and a block. In addition, he went 4-for-4 from the line as the Devils hit 22-of-27 attempts as a team.

 

Thad Weir led St. John Fisher with 25 points as the Eagles improve to 7-3 overall.

 

The Devils slip to 5-6 on the year. They travel to Carnegie Mellon University on Tuesday night for a 7:00 pm tip-off.
