Big Second Half Lifts Brookyln Past Richard Stockton, 73-64

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Basketball team shot 51.6% (16-31) from the field in the second half to help erase a 16-point first half deficit, as the Bulldogs defeated the Ospreys of Richard Stockton College, 73-64, in a key non-conference tilt on Saturday afternoon at the West Quad Center.

With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 14-7 overall on the season, while the Ospreys drop to 15-7 overall on the year.

Leading the way to the BC victory was senior guard Tyshawn Russell, who led all scorers with a game-high 28 points on 10-for-20 shooting from the field, including going 1-for-4 from three and 7-for-9 from the free throw line. Classmate and backcourt partner Amil John filled up the stat sheet with 18 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals.

Senior forward Keiran Halton had a solid game netting 13 points and grabbing eight rebounds, while playing in all 40 minutes. Junior forward Kavon Baker finished with 10 points.

Stockton's DiAndre Brown scored a team-high 23 points to go with nine rebounds, while Darnell McCargo netted 12 points, to go with eight rebounds. Bill McDonough registered a double-double with 10 points and game-high 17 rebounds.

The first 10 minutes of the opening half featured a tight battle with six lead changes and two ties. Following a layup from Russell that put BC up 16-14 with 9:36 left in the half, the Ospreys took control of the game using a 20-2 run to build a 16-point advantage, 34-18, their largest of the game, with 3:05 remaining before the halftime break. Brooklyn would chip away at its deficit the rest of the way, as Richard Stockton would eventually take a nine-point lead, 36-27, into the locker room.

Richard Stockton would lead by as many as 11 points on two occasions in the second half, before the Bulldogs began their comeback attempt. Following a Brown three that put the Ospreys up 46-35 with 16:40 left in the game, BC jumped out on a 17-4 run to regain the lead, 52-50, with 9:20 remaining before the final buzzer. It would be Brooklyn's first lead since Russell's layup at the 9:36 mark of the first stanza.

The Bulldogs would hold on their advantage for the rest of the game and eventually lead by as many as 11, 73-62, on a pair of free throws from John. BC would eventually close out the Ospreys for the 73-64 victory.

Turnovers were the key to the Bulldogs victory, as Brooklyn forced Richard Stockton into 17 miscues in the game, which led to 22 points for the home team.

For the game, BC shot 42.4% (25-59) from the field, but was held to just 15.4% (2-13) from three. The Bulldogs took full advantage of the charity stripe, going 21-for-29 (72.4%) from the line.

Stockton shot 41.9% (26-62) from the field, including 31.8% (7-22) from beyond the arc. The Ospreys went to the line just nine times, converting five (55.6%).

Richard Stockton out-rebounded Brooklyn 42-35.

Brooklyn returns to the court on Monday, February 6th, as the Bulldogs will play host to Berkeley College (NY) in a non-conference match up. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm at the West Quad Center.
