La Roche is proud to announce that Hermie Carmichael has been named the new head coach of the men's basketball program. Carmichael is a 1999 graduate of La Roche and takes over after serving as a Redhawks assistant for the past three seasons, including associate head coach last season.

He replaces Harry Jenkins, who retires after a season and a half as head coach following the passing of Scott Lang. La Roche was 19-9 this past season, 37-11 overall under Jenkins.

"I am extremely excited to be the next head coach of the men's basketball program at La Roche College. I am also extremely honored to carry on the tradition and excellence that Matt Driscoll, Scott Lang and Harry Jenkins have installed over the past 20 years."

La Roche has had tremendous success while Carmichael has been on staff. The Redhawks won the 2010 AMCC championship and clinched a NCAA Tournament berth while going 57-24 in Carmichael's three seasons.

Prior to La Roche, Carmichael served as Avonworth High School's assistant coach and head junior varsity coach from 2007 to 2009. He was also a La Roche assistant coach during the 2000-01 season.

Carmichael enjoyed a Hall of Fame career at La Roche, captaining the Redhawks his senior season and finishing his career ranked among the program's all-time leaders in points, assists, steals, and 3-pointers. He was inducted into the school's athletics Hall of Fame in February.

La Roche opens the 2012-2013 at Division II Clarion on Thursday, Nov. 15.
