Pipes Scores Career-High 12 Points to Lead Saints to a 90-62 Win Over Olivet at MSJ Tip-Off Classic

(CINCINNATI, Ohio) - Junior point guard Eliot Pipes (Nashville, Tenn./Hillsboro) scored a career-high 12 today (Sunday, November 18, 2012) to lead the Thomas More College men's basketball team to a, 90-62, win over Olivet (Mich.) College on the second day of the College of Mount St. Joseph Classic at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.

With the win, the Saints remain undefeated at 3-0 on the season.  With the loss, the Comets fall to 0-3.

Olivet took an early 4-2 lead when Garner Small made a jumper with 17:51 to play in the first half.  Thomas More answered with a 26-5 run capped by a three-pointer by senior point guard Ryan Hamm (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) to build a 28-9 lead with 10:43 to play in the opening half.  The Comets responded with a 15-4 run to cut the lead to 32-24 with 6:04 to play in the half when Dakotah Ellis converted a lay-up and free-throw.  The Saints came back with an 18-5 run to extend the lead to 50-29 when senior shooting guard Ross Renken (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) made a lay-up with 1:21 to play in the first half.  Olivet closed out the half on a 7-1 run to cut the Saints' lead to 51-36 at intermission.

The Comets' DaunTrell Hill made a jumper at the 18:55 mark of the second half to cut the lead to 51-38.  The Saints answered with a 25-5 run to increase the lead to 76-43 with 9:26 to play in the game when senior power forward Michael Rowan (Goshen, Ky./North Oldham) made two free-throws.  Olivet closed out the game on a 19-14 run, but it wasn't enough as Thomas More went on to the 90-62 victory.

Joining Pipes in double-figure scoring was sophomore shooting guard Chris Richard (Louisville, Ky./Southern), who had 10.  Two Saints just missed double-figure scoring as Hamm and sophomore shooting guard Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) each had nine points.  Senior shooting guard Ethan King (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) and junior small forward Brandon Housley (Covington, Ky./Holmes) led the team on the boards as they each had five rebounds.  Junior point guard D'Carlo Hayes (Louisville, Ky./Male) led the team in assists with four and steals with four.

Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (November 21) when it hosts across-the-river rival Mount St. Joseph in the Bridge Shootout.  The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
