More news about: Medaille

BUFFALO, NY - A hot shooting day by the Medaille men's basketball team led to a third straight victory to begin the season as Medaille upended visiting Cazenovia College (76-60) in non-conference action this afternoon.

Despite being outrebounded (37-27) in the game the Mavs torched the nets from all parts of the floor.  The Mavs knocked down (62.5%) of their three pointers in the first half and were (10 of 17) for the game from behind the arc, good for a (58.8%) day from long range.

That staggering number overshadows their (54.7%) overall shooting percentage which included a (16 for 26) or (61.5%) effort in the second half.  They were also very unselfish, posting (20) assists on (29) made field goals in the victory.

Leading the way for Medaille was senior Tyler Stevens who was (6 for 7) from the field and (5 for 6) from three point land to lead all scorers with (17) points.  Sophomore Alex Baron continued his strong play as he poured in (16) points on (8 of 14) shooting as well.

Guiding the Maverick offense was point guard Josh Laureano who had several highlight reel passes in transition en route to an impressive (9) assist day.  He also tied a team high with (5) rebounds, matching teammate and fellow senior Anthony Battaglia who also grabbed five caroms on a (4 for 4) shooting and (4) assist day for himself.

The Medaille defense was stifling at times in the first half as they surged to a (19-4) lead just six minutes into play, they would lead by as many as (21) in the game.  They were able to keep the Wildcats from making a serious run by defending the three point ball well.  They held Cazenovia to (4 for 17) from behind the arc and (40.7%) from the floor overall.

The Mavs remain unbeaten at (3-0) as they prepare to head down Route 198 to face the Buffalo State Bengals on Tuesday (11/27) at 7:00pm in another non-conference tilt.
