NEW YORK – A physical game from the get-go was a heartbreaker for the Beavers as a second-half surge – highlighted by key free throws in the latter stages of the second half – by the Cougars allowed Medgar Evers College (4-2, 2-0 CUNYAC) to defeat the City College of New York men's basketball team (3-3, 0-2 CUNYAC), 56-41, on Friday evening at Nat Holman Gymnasium.

David Solano provided a spark off of the Beavers bench, recording 11 points in 18 minutes, including three clutch second-half three-pointers. Solano came out of halftime firing away and hit back-to-back three pointers. Down 29-27, the Beavers and Cougars traded baskets until a late run by Medgar Evers allowed them to pull away with the victory.

Two-time CUNYAC/Con Edison Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week Anthony Lewis posted eight points and nine rebounds while junior Brandon Reeves was a highlight reel, swatting away three shots.

Zachary Heiss and Guilherme Brodt, making their first starts of the season, recorded seven points and five points, respectively. Heiss led all Beavers with seven points at the half but was not available for the second half due to injury.

The Beavers stay at Nat Holman Gymnasium to host Vassar College on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 1 PM.
