The Hamilton College men's basketball team (4-2) shot 75 percent from the floor in the second half to hand visiting Manhattanville (2-4) an 85-69 loss Saturday afternoon at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House.
The Continentals made 18 of their 24 shots after intermission to pull away from a 35-35 halftime tie. Matt Hart '16 led Hamilton with 25 points (two short of his career high) and added three assists and four rebounds. He made 10 of his 17 field goal tries.
Hamilton climbed out of an early hole, outscoring the Valiants 20-9 over a 10-minute span late in the opening period; the Continentals, who missed five of their first six shots en route to a 15-5 deficit 4:53 into the game, took their first lead (32-31) on a Hart lay-up with 1:42 to go in the half then opened the second period on a 15-3 run to take control. Hart made a pair of three-point baskets in that stretch.
The Valiants pulled to within single digits just once in the last 14 minutes of play, using a 7-2 run to climb to 63-54 with nine minutes left before lay-ups by Bradley Gifford '15 and Matt Dean '14 on consecutive Hamilton possessions put the hosts back up by 13.
Peter Kazickas '15 scored 15 points (making seven of eight shots from the floor) and pulled down seven rebounds. His scoring total was one short of his personal best effort. Gifford added nine points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Jack Bramswig '14 and Anthony Maestre '16 led Manhattanville with 21 and 19 points, respectively. Bramswig led all players with nine rebounds and Maestre's six assists were a game high.
Greg Newton '14 scored nine points and led the Continentals with five assists and Dean added eight in just 13 minutes of play.
Hamilton is idle until hosting SUNY Morrisville Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8 p.m. The Valiants play host to Hunter Monday at 8 p.m.
