Thomas Men's Basketball Ranked Fifth in Preseason Poll

The Terriers finished last season with a 13-12 record, 9-9 NAC and fell in the quarterfinals to Colby-Sawyer. The squad returns 12 players from last year and welcomes six newcomers.

Thomas will open the 2013-14 season on the road with a non-conference game against Babson College as part of the Babson Invitational Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for November 15th at 6:00 PM.

The University of Maine at Farmington has been chosen as the preseason favorite to win the North Atlantic Conference men's basketball title in a poll conducted by the league's coaches. The Beavers received six first place votes and 93 total points to top the.

The Beavers return 11 players and four starters from last year's team that finished atop the league standings at 21-6 (15-3 NAC). Reigning Coach of the Year Dick Meader returns 2012-13 Player of the Year, Ben Johnson to anchor the squad in the paint, while 2012-13 All-Conference Second Team guard Andrew Dickey and 2011-12 All-Conference First Team guard Pet Sumner return to buoy the backcourt.

Defending champion Husson was picked to finish second with 85 total points, including three first-place votes. The Eagles will need to replace 2012-13 Defensive Player of the Year, Eric Modica and 2012-13 Tournament MVP Marc Zaharchuk. Hoping to fill those voids will be 11 returners, including a pair of starters in Brooks Spaulding and Corey Wood.

Castleton garnered the final first-place vote in the poll, finishing fourth behind Colby-Sawyer. Castleton has appeared in three of the last four conference finals, winning the title in 2012. The Spartans return Logan White, who was an All-Conference First Team guard last season.

Thomas College rounded out the top five in the poll.

The season is set to being this weekend, with conference play beginning December 3.
