Men's Hoops can't stop Bloodhounds, 58-52

NEW YORK, NY --- The City College of New York lost 58-52 to visiting John Jay College of Criminal Justice in CUNYAC men's basketball action on Wednesday evening at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. The Beavers of CCNY drop to 5-10 and 3-5 against conference opponents while the Bloodhounds of John Jay improve to 7-10 and 5-4 in the CUNYAC.
 
Anthony Lewis led CCNY with 18 points with 13 rebounds and three steals. In his first home action of the season, Brandon Reeves contributed 14 points in just 13 minutes.Jordan Ortega came through with five points, seven rebounds and four assists. Manfred Cadet added five rebounds and two steals.
 
For the Bloodhounds, Kris Owens led the way with 18 points, six rebounds and three steals. Korede Griffith contributed 14 points while pulling down nine boards and collecting four steals. Carl Ulysse added eight points, four rebounds and two steals.
 
In the first half, Lewis carried the Beavers, finishing with 12 points and eight boards. Owens matched Lewis' point total, and Ulysse added six off bench. The teams would entire halftime with John Jay ahead, 27-26.
 
Entering the second, the teams traded the lead throughout the first ten minutes, with CCNY taking a 42-39 lead on a layup from Reeves with 9:18 remaining. From that point, however, John Jay would take control and not let up, making their free throws down the stretch.
 
CCNY travels to Medgar Evers College on Friday for an 8:00 p.m. game against the Cougars.
