Immaculata, PA – Leading by four points midway through the second half of Saturday afternoon's Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball game, Immaculata University used a 22-6 run to seize control on their way to a 76-59 victory over Keystone College. The Mighty Macs lift their overall record to 8-10 with the victory and go to 6-5 in the CSAC while the Giants slip to 9-10 on the season and 6-6 in conference play.
Immaculata build a 16-5 lead over the opening 10 minutes of play in Saturday afternoon's game before Keystone used a 7-0 burst to climb back to within four points. The Giants cut their deficit to 22-20 with 3:40 remaining in the first half after Jesse Longmire (Harlem, NY/John S. Burke Catholic) scored on a layup, but the Mighty Macs responded with the next five points of the game before taking a 27-24 lead into the locker room following a low scoring half.
Barry Brockington had six points to lead Immaculata, who got five points apiece from Tyreek Peeples and Matt Simon in the opening Stanza. Brockington hauled in five rebounds to lead the Mighty Macs, who shot 36 percent from the floor in the stanza including a 4-13 effort from three-point range and an 83.3 percent clip from the free throw line.
Longmire led all players with eight first half points while Miles Dargan (Orlando, FL/Wekiva) netted five points in the period. Duncan Lunsford (Marietta, GA/Sprayberry) pulled down four boards to pace Keystone, who shot 32.1 percent from the floor, 22.2 percent from beyond the arc, and 66.7 percent from the stripe in the half.
Lunsford hit a jumper with 12:14 remaining in regulation to bring the Giants to within four points at 37-33, but Immaculata countered with a 22-6 run that pushed their lead to a commanding 20 points, 59-39, with 5:54 left. The Mighty Macs would lead by as many as 22 points and Keystone would come no closer than within 15 points in the closing minutes as Immaculata completed a regular season sweep of the Giants after winning 80-67 in La Plume on January 20th.
Brockington finished with a game-high 15 points to lead the Mighty Macs, who also got double-figure points from Rodney Duncan (11), Peeples (10), and Roy Ferrell, Jr. (10). Mamadou Diakite had a game-high eight rebounds for Immaculata, who held a 45-32 advantage on the glass for the game. The Mighty Macs finished the contest hitting on 46.3 percent of their shots from the floor while going 7-20 from beyond the arc and 19-26 from the free throw line.
Dan Candemeres (Holbrook, NY/Sachem East) scored 12 points to lead Keystone, who got 10 points apiece from Longmire and Dargan. Lunsford paced the Giants with seven rebounds, Candemeres dished out a team-high four assists, and Alex Smith (Floyd, NY/Holland Patent ) added three steals in the loss. The visitors finished the game shooting 33.3 percent from the field including a 26.9 percent effort from three-point land and a 63.2 percent effort from the stripe.
Keystone returns to action on Wednesday evening when they host Gwynedd Mercy University in a CSAC contest scheduled to tipoff at 7:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center in La Plume.
