Mariners Fall to Hornets

CASTINE, Maine -- Maine Maritime dropped a 91-78 decision to Lyndon in a North Atlantic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Hornets improved to 11-12 overall, 11-5 NAC, while the Mariners fell to 2-21, 1-15.

Jason Hatch paced Maine Maritime with 18 points, while Shep Carter added 17 and Tyler Chiasson chipped in with 14. Chiasson also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

George Carle pumped in a game-high 27 points for Johnson and pulled down 10 rebounds. David Johnson added 22, JoJo Woodruff 16 and Iser Barnes 12. Rob Alers grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and Josh Bosworth pulled 10 boards.

The Hornets jumped out to a 6-0 lead after a pair of free throws from Bosworth with 17:24 left in the opening half. Chiasson hit a layup at 11:15 to put the Mariners within six, 19-13. A Hatch trey six minutes later put MMA as close as three, 24-21. Lyndon took its largest lead, 40-26, after a pair of Woodruff free throws and led 48-36 at halftime.

A Carle jay seven minutes into the second half put Lyndon ahead 70-49 before two Carter free throws capped 13-2 run for MMA to make it 74-62 with 9:41 left in the game. David Breunig's three at 5:30 put the Mariners within seven, 80-73, but they wouldn't get any closer.

Maine Maritime returns to action Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., hosting Thomas.
