Buena Vista - The Beavers are playing the first of their two exhibition games this week as they well also travel to the University of Nebraska-Omaha for a Friday afternoon tip. The team is gearing up for its first season with a new head coach for the first time in over two decades. Todd Lorensen, who captured a junior college national title two years ago as coach at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa, takes over the reins. BVU has a pair of starters back this season (Connor Winkelman and Timothy Jeffries), along with sophomore Michael Demers who came off the bench in 17 games a year ago. Jeffries is the team's top returning point scorer from a season ago. It has just four other players back that combined to play in 28 games. The Beavers averaged over 83 points per contest in 2017-18 while going 17-9 and placing third in the conference standings after a 10-6 record.
