Hope falls at home to Albion

A Briton charge could not be turned back, and the Hope College men's basketball team fell to Albion College, 84-70, on Saturday at DeVos Fieldhouse.

The Flying Dutchmen trailed at halftime, 46-34, after the Britons finished on a 9-2 run.

"Credit to Coach (Jody) May and Albion. I thought they were very well prepared and executed very well. That's a very good basketball team that's playing with a purpose," head coach Greg Mitchell said. "We left a lot out there. We missed 14 3s, another nine free throws. I thought we didn't make enough finishing plays to stay attached and they got comfortable.

"We'll press on, learn from it and get ready for next week."

Hope dropped to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

Junior forward Preston Granger of Lansing, Michigan (Lansing Christian HS) topped the Flying Dutchmen with 17 points.

Freshman forward Evan Thomas of Okemos, Michigan (Okemos) chipped in 13 points, while junior center Sam Vree of Lansing, Illinois (Lansing Christian) added 12 points.
