MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The William Paterson men's basketball team (5-14, 1-11 NJAC) was defeated, 123-92, by Montclair State (13-5, 8-3 NJAC) in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) road game Jan. 29.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior Andre Wells scored from inside with 5:32 on the clock in the first half to spark a 9-0 run that brought the Pioneers to within five (40-35).
- Montclair State responded with an 18-2 to close out the half and go into the break leading by 21 (58-37).
- The Red Hawks maintained their double-digit lead the rest of the way to claim the 123-92 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Wells scored a team-high 22 points while adding six rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
- Senior David Martinez shot 6-of-12 (.500) from the field for 14 points to go with five boards.
- Senior Neftali Valentin logged 13 points, six rebounds and six assists.
- Freshman Delani Hyde finished with 13 points after shooting 6-for-9 (.667) from the floor.
- Freshman Jianni Moran had 11 points.
- Senior Tim Gjonballa went 4-for-4 (1.000) from the floor for 10 points.
- The Pioneers shot 50 percent (32-of-64) from the field as a team.
