Huntingdon, NY: The Ramapo College women's basketball fell to #18 Juniata College today, 68-57 at the Juniata Holiday Classic. The Roadrunners fall to 8-3 while the Eagles improve to 11-1.
The first half saw Juniata take a seven-point lead, 16-9 (10:31) before Ramapo's Lindsey Gripenburg hit a three to cut the lead to four, 16-12 (9:44). A made basket by Juniata put the Eagles up by six once again before Faith Flannery scored the next five points for Ramapo on two made baskets and a foul shot to complete a three point play as they came within one point of the lead, 18-17 with 6:03 on the clock. In the final six minutes the two teams traded baskets before Gripenburg drained a jumper at the buzzer to cut the lead to three, 28-25.
Gripenburg opened up the second half like she did the first nailing a three pointer as she was assisted by Jackie Jerkovich to tie the game at 28. A made basket by Juniata put them up by two, 30-28 before Alexa Ryan started a 6-0 run for the Roadrunners with a made layup and was capped off by a drive to the basket by Flannery to take a four point lead, 34-30. Ramapo stretched the lead to six, 38-32 on a made basket by Kerri Kosakowski before the Eagles went on a 9-2 run to take the lead back 41-40 with 8:04 on the clock.
Ryan got the Roadrunners back up by four, 45-41 as she hit a three pointer and a layup before Eagles started to pull away. They extended their lead to six, 53-47 with 4:13 to go on a three pointer by Jordan Speck before Gripenburg hit a three of her own off an assist from Flannery, 53-50 (3:44). In the final minutes of play Juniata was able to pull away as they capitalized on their foul shots down the stretch not allowing the Roadrunner back into the game as they extended their lead to 11, 68-57.
The Roadrunners were led by Gripenburg as she was a perfect 5-5 from behind the three point line and 7-8 from the field with a season high 20 points. Ryan tallied 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal while Flannery posted nine points, two blocks, a team high five assists and four rebounds. Brittany Howes came off the bench to grab a team high eight rebounds and recorded six points. Ramapo shot 42% from the field and 70% from the foul line.
The Roadrunners return to action on January 4th when they host NJAC rival New Jersey City University at the Bradley Center at 5:30pm.
